Ken Cross, Presidential Candidate

Kenneth Cross - Presidential Candidate - FEC ID #C00446526

I have studied politics my entire lifetime and believe that now is the greatest window of opportunity for a third party candidate to win a presidential election in recent history. Neither the Republican Party nor the Democratic Party demonstrates any genuine interest in fiscal responsibility.  Leadership in both the Republican and the Democratic parties caters to the extreme factions within their respective organizations.  Neither party offers specific detailed solutions to most of our nations serious problems. Many citizens believe, as I do, that the best interest of the United States of America is served by taking measures to strengthen the middle class. The best way to do that would be to elect a president who is of the middle class. We should not be surprised that Presidential candidates who are millionaires support tax cuts that primarily benefit millionaires.

Respect for Congress and the Administration is at or near all time lows. This is largely because we essentially have a kick-back political process between politicians and lobbyists. The time has come to restore honor and integrity to national politics. We need campaign finance reform, term limits in congress, and fair and simple tax policy that would reduce the influence of lobbyists. I have developed a graduated flat tax approach to personal income tax that would result in eliminating the need to file a federal income tax form for most citizens.

Implications of Federal Budget Deficits and the National Debt on the Future

My stand on a number of important social and political issues is as follows:

  • Believe that an exit strategy should be developed regarding the Afghanistan war. Conducting an endless war is not consistent with American tradition or beliefs.
  • Believe in strong adherence to the Constitution.
  • Believe in balancing the budget.
  • Prefer détente, deterrence and containment in preference to pre-emptive strike strategy except when attack is imminent beyond reasonable doubt.
  • Support evaluating the effectiveness of the “no child left behind” program and modifying or replacing it as appropriate. A suitable replacement would be a “Quality Education Initiative” which would concern itself with the development of all students and not just the ones that are behind.
  • Do not support privatization or any other approach that would significantly weaken Social Security.
  • Promote increasing energy self-sufficiency with emphasis on renewable energy alternatives.
  • Prefer fair trade agreements over free trade agreements.
  • Support protecting the environment.
  • Opposed to abortion except in cases of rape, incest, or when the life of the mother is at risk.
  • Opposed to gay marriages but support civil unions with certain legal rights.
  • Support affirmative action but oppose quotas.

The following is some personal information about me:

  1. 62 years old
  2. Married
  3. Father of three children with two presently in college.
  4. Semi-retired Professional Engineer.
  5. Member of Calvary Baptist Church.
  6. Past Assistant Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 320.
  7. As a child, picked up potatoes with migrant workers.
  8. Previously a UAW foundry worker.
  9. Previously a construction worker.
  10. Previously a corporate executive.
  11. Have owned three different small businesses.
  12. Presently a management consultant.

The prospect of relinquishing my privacy and subjecting my family and I to potential risk of harm concerns me. However, any increased risk that we might be exposed to pales in comparison to the risks that our military personnel are exposed to daily in their efforts to promote freedom and justice around the world. Consequently, I feel compelled to take action to address important issues that cry out for attention such as the peril that chronic deficit spending is putting our country’s future in.

I am running for President of the United States as a candidate of the recently created New Populist Party. Ideally, I will be elected president so as to straighten out the mess that current politicians have made of our national governance. But even if nothing more is accomplished then to draw attention to serious national problem areas, and to offer viable solutions for consideration, I will have helped my country by campaigning. I am available to deliver speeches followed by questions. I am also available for interviews or discussions. Please contact me if you are interested in a new and better approach to the governance of our nation.
